Tangerines

Tangerines
More about this piece

It wasn’t a sunny orchard somewhere but Sainsbury’s in Chiswick that yielded this clutch of perfectly orange, brilliantly shiny tangerines, still with their leaves.  I added the background blue of a Mediterranean sky that I felt they would be at home with.  In my view tangerines taste significantly more interesting and zesty than satsumas,  It was fun to try to capture them at their best, before turning them into fresh juice over ice.   The painting is providing a vibrant splash of colour to a friend's kitchen.
