More about this piece
I love ripe black figs like these. They are probably my favourite fruits, apart from raspberries. Their pinks and purples are a delight to paint. I bought these three from Waitrose in Westfield. When they are in season you can usually find little wooden crates of these sweet black figs in the excellent Syrian grocers in the Uxbridge Road. This painting found a good home in Yorkshire, a long. long way from the sunny climes where the figs were grown.
