More about this piece
This work was created at the request of the International President of a wonderful French family bakery business. The Margaret Merrill roses and white Dianthus are from our garden. The bread is a ‘tresse’ or plaited brioche loaf spattered with poppy seeds. I bought some good cheese and fruit, opened a nice bottle of Provençal rosé, and took the photograph in our garden late on a warm summer’s afternoon, hence the long shadows. The gorgeous pottery plate is from the Porches Pottery in the Algarve, bought back in 1993 and still in daily use.
